Charlotte Surkin, BiographyCharlotte Surkin is an individual voice instructor in the Musical Theater Department at Marymount Manhattan College in New York; Ms. Surkin has previously taught singing as an adjunct Assistant Professor at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey; Wagner College in Staten Island, New York; CAP21/Molloy College and Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. Her students have performed in many regional companies across the US as well as on Broadway, such as the Lion King, Hadestown, West Side Story, etc.
In July 13, of 2017, Ms. Surkin presented a lecture at the International Conference for the College Music Society (CMS) in Sydney, Australia. Previous lectures were presented at the Voice Foundation in Philadelphia, The Comparative Voice Pedagogy Seminar through New York Singing Teachers Association. Ms. Surkin has been on the Board of Directors of the New York Singing Teachers Association (NYSTA) for close to 20 years as well as the Board of Directors of NATS-NYC, the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She has taken 2 vocology internships at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital with Dr. Anat Keidar and Dr. Anthony Jahn and at Mt. Sinai Hospital with Dr. Linda Carroll and Dr. Peak Woo respectively. As a performer, Ms. Surkin has performed the alto solos in over 30 major oratorios with orchestra in the Tri-State area, including two alto solo performances of the Messiah in Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Her operatic repertoire includes performances in regional and local companies ranging from Baroque to Contemporary.
